Portugal relocation services, compared: what each firm actually sells

A full-service relocation company sells one thing no single-service provider can: coordination. Instead of you sequencing the visa file, the rental search, the tax number and the utility contracts, one firm runs the calendar and chases the paperwork. This page compares the firms that sell that coordination as a package in Portugal, on the prices they actually publish, what each package covers, and what stays your problem. Checked October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • →Instant Relocation Portugal publishes the most complete menu: rental packages from €575 to €1,575 — the €1,575 Advanced package folds the rental search together with the NIF and a bank account — plus utility setup at €200 and purchase packages at €1,125 to €1,725.
  • →StartAbroad's Portugal packages run about $2,145 for the main applicant plus $395 per dependent, covering D7 or D8 visa paperwork, rental search, NIF and bank setup with a dedicated specialist. Its Concierge package is around $4,750.
  • →Anchorless publishes no fixed relocation-package price. The relocation plan and the consultation are free, and done-for-you services are priced per service with the fees shown upfront.
  • →The exclusions matter as much as the inclusions: government visa fees, apostilles, translations, rental deposits and flights sit outside every package we checked. StartAbroad also caps its Portugal rental search at 5 walkthroughs and 50 listings, with extra fees beyond that.

The short answer

Want the home found before you land, with the paperwork handled in one checkout? Instant Relocation Portugal's Advanced Rental Package at €1,575 is the most complete single purchase we found: rental search, accompanied viewings, law-firm contract review, NIF registration and a bank account in one order.

Is the visa file the part that worries you? StartAbroad assigns a relocation specialist to your D7 or D8 application and walks you through it, at roughly $2,145 for the main applicant plus $395 per dependent. It is the only package here built around the visa paperwork first and the housing second.

Prefer to plan it yourself and pay only for help? Anchorless keeps the relocation plan and the consultation free forever, and you buy done-for-you admin services one by one with the fees shown upfront. Read our Anchorless review for the detail on how they work.

Digital nomad who mainly needs a roof and people? NomadX is built around housing and community in Lisbon, Caparica, Madeira and Porto rather than around visa filing — we could not verify published package prices, so ask for the full scope in writing before paying.

Want a crowd to ask instead of a firm to file? Expats Portugal pairs its relocation plan with 12 months of premium membership: an ambassador network, weekly webinars and a 16k+ member community. Pricing is quote-based, which is the main thing to know.

The rest of this page is the comparison: every firm's published prices, what the fee covers, how they run your move, and what they quietly leave out.

Prices are the firms' published list prices, re-checked in October 2026. StartAbroad quotes in US dollars. Instant Relocation Portugal runs sale pricing on its shop from time to time, so the price on the day you buy may sit below the list figures here.

Instant Relocation Portugal: the property-led menu

Instant Relocation Portugal publishes the most transparent package list of any firm we checked, on its 2026 cost calculator and its online shop. The Premium Rental Search at €575 is remote-only: full-market tracking, remote screenings and video walkthroughs. The Rental Property Package at €975 adds two days of accompanied viewings, negotiation support, a law-firm contract review and utility activation. The Advanced Rental Package at €1,575 folds in the NIF registration (done in 3 to 5 days) and a remote bank account opening, which makes it the closest thing to a one-checkout relocation on this page.

For buyers, the Property Sales Package at €1,125 and the Complete Sales Package at €1,725 cover acquisition searches, contract and title-deed review and mortgage guidance. Utility setup is also sold on its own at €200. The firm works nationwide and sells straight through its shop, so you can see the exact line items before paying. What the packages do not include is the visa filing itself, the government fees, the rental deposit or the flights. And watch the shop pricing: we saw the Advanced package listed at €1,275 on sale against its €1,575 list price, so compare against the live price on the day you buy.

StartAbroad: the visa-led package

StartAbroad builds its Portugal offer around the visa application, which suits D7 and D8 applicants whose main fear is the file, not the flat. The Get-to-Portugal package runs about $2,145 for the main applicant plus roughly $395 per dependent, and covers visa application support, the rental search, the NIF, the bank setup and four one-to-one coaching calls with a dedicated relocation specialist. A D8-only package sits around $1,250 for simpler cases, and the Concierge Relocation package at about $4,750 adds arrival logistics and local registrations.

Two limits matter. The Portugal rental search is capped at 5 walkthroughs and 50 listings, and anything beyond that costs extra, so heavy house-hunters should price that in. And the package price covers StartAbroad's service fee only: government visa fees, apostilles, translations and housing deposits are all billed separately. Prices are quoted in US dollars, which is worth noting if you are comparing against the euro-denominated firms above.

Anchorless: plan free, pay per service

Anchorless takes the opposite approach: there is no fixed relocation-package price to compare. The relocation plan and the consultation are free, with no trial and no credit card, and you buy done-for-you admin services one by one. Their published per-service prices are a €99 NIF, a €359 bank account opening and a €349 social security registration. The team is based in Portugal, the fees are shown upfront, and government fees are always separate.

The honest framing comes from Anchorless itself: it is a private relocation company, not a law firm and not a tax adviser, and it works with accredited partner lawyers for the legal steps. It also states plainly that nobody can guarantee a visa outcome, since the decision belongs to the authorities. That makes Anchorless the right fit if you want to self-plan and buy help only where you get stuck, and the wrong fit if you want one fixed-price contract for the entire move.

NomadX: the nomad landing pad

NomadX is a Lisbon-based outfit built for digital nomads, with a presence in Lisbon, Caparica, Madeira and Porto. The offer centers on housing plus community integration: events and a nomad community alongside the logistics, rather than a visa-filing operation. We could not verify published package prices, so treat any figure you see quoted online with caution and get the scope in writing.

Pick NomadX if your visa route is straightforward and what you really need is a furnished roof and people to meet on arrival. If your move involves a complex visa file or a family, the firms above give you more paperwork for the money.

Expats Portugal: community with a relocation plan

Expats Portugal sells guidance rather than execution. Its relocation plan comes bundled with 12 months of premium membership, and the value is the network: an ambassador program, weekly webinars and a 16k+ member community of people who have done the move. The service list is broad, from visa guidance across the D7, digital nomad and Golden routes to NIF and bank help, property services, utilities and legal access.

The gap is pricing: we found no published package prices, so everything is quote-based. That is fine for a community product, but it makes Expats Portugal hard to compare against the firms with fixed menus. Ask for the full written scope before paying, since "relocation support" can mean very different things to different firms.

What none of these packages include

Every full-service quote has the same blind spots, and knowing them keeps the comparison honest. Government and AIMA visa fees are always separate. Apostilles and certified translations are always separate, so budget a translator alongside the package. Rental deposits, the first months' rent and the flights are yours. The physical move itself is a different industry: international movers quote separately, and a mover's "relocation support" is not the same product as a relocation company's. The dog is a third separate industry: pet relocation firms handle the animal, the crate, the flight and the EU import paperwork, and none of the relocation packages on this page include them.

Also budget for the costs that arrive after the package ends. The fiscal representation bundled into many NIF filings renews yearly, and the second-year terms are where the real cost hides — our fiscal representative comparison shows the renewal prices nobody advertises.

When to skip the full package

If you only need two or three admin pieces, buying them separately from specialists usually costs far less than a full relocation package. A NIF plus a bank account runs €379 to €458 through the specialist firms — see our NIF and bank account bundle comparison — and our NIF service comparison ranks the six providers on the NIF alone.

Full packages earn their fee in two situations: you need a home found and contracted before you board the plane, or you want one specialist managing a visa file end to end. If neither applies and you are comfortable coordinating a few providers yourself, the singles route leaves hundreds of euros in your pocket. And if you would rather keep everything under one roof, weigh these firms against our own full-relocation service.

Red flags before you pay a relocation firm

Walk away from any firm that publishes no prices at all and quotes only after a call. Nobody can guarantee a visa timeline or outcome — guaranteed approvals are a lie, since the decision belongs to the Portuguese authorities. Never pay by wire transfer with no invoice, and never sign a contract that does not spell out exactly who does what, in which week. If a fee looks far below the published market, something is missing from the scope.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a full-service relocation company cost in Portugal?

Published prices run from €575 for a remote rental search to €1,575 for Instant Relocation Portugal's Advanced package (rental search plus NIF and bank account). StartAbroad's visa-led Portugal package is about $2,145 for the main applicant plus $395 per dependent, with a Concierge option near $4,750. We could not verify published NomadX package prices. Government fees, deposits and flights are extra in every case.

Do relocation companies handle the visa application?

Some do, and some only advise. StartAbroad builds its Portugal package around D7 and D8 application support. Instant Relocation Portugal offers a free D1–D9 visa consultation but its paid packages center on housing and admin. Anchorless is explicit that it is not a law firm and that no firm can guarantee a visa outcome, since the decision belongs to the Portuguese authorities.

What is excluded from relocation packages?

Across every firm we checked: government and AIMA visa fees, apostilles, certified translations, rental deposits, the first months' rent, flights and the physical move itself. None of them move the dog either — pet transport is a separate specialist purchase with its own pricing and EU import rules. StartAbroad also caps its Portugal rental search at 5 walkthroughs and 50 listings, with extra fees beyond that.

Is Instant Relocation Portugal's Advanced Rental Package worth €1,575?

If you need a home found and contracted before arrival, yes: it bundles the rental search, two days of accompanied viewings, a law-firm contract review, the NIF and a bank account in one order, and buying those separately would cost roughly the same with none of the coordination. Check their shop on the day, since we saw it on sale at €1,275 against the €1,575 list price.

Does Anchorless sell a full relocation package?

No fixed-price package is published. The relocation plan and consultation are free, and done-for-you services are priced per service with fees shown upfront — currently €99 for the NIF, €359 for the bank account opening and €349 for social security registration. That suits self-planners who want to buy help only where they get stuck.

What is the cheapest way to get relocation help in Portugal?

Start with the free options: Anchorless's relocation plan and consultation cost nothing. And if you only need the paperwork, buying single services beats every full package: a NIF plus bank account costs €379 to €458 through the specialist firms.
